Meet the 2020-21 Executive Board
Carli Langevin | Co-President Biomedical Engineering 2021 Stratham, NH I am a senior studying biomedical engineering at Brown. As co-presidents, Lisa and I organize and conduct meetings for the group, manage business contact with outside companies, and maintain the budget. In addition to SWE, I am on the e-board of Brown BMES, a head BDW mentor, and a researcher in Dr. Lee’s lab. When I am not in Barus & Holley (Brown’s engineering building), my life centers around the outdoors. I love hiking, skiing, swimming and anything involving heights. |
Lisa Okazaki | Co-President Biomedical Engineering 2021 Tokyo, Japan I am a senior studying biomedical engineering. My role as president is to, with the help of Carli, organize and conduct meetings for the group, maintain business contact with outside companies and with Brown UFB, and plan for the national SWE conference. At Brown, I am also a part of Brown BMES, Project Sunshine, and the Hoffman-Kim Lab. I love playing and watching sports, reading, doing Ikebana (Japanese flower arrangement), and knitting in my free time :) |
Srinidhi Chari | Junior President Mechanical Engineering 2022 Albany, New York I am a junior studying mechanical engineering. My role as Junior President in SWE includes working closely with the SWE presidents in coordinating and planning events, recruiting new members, and expanding the influence of SWE both in the engineering community at Brown and the greater Providence area. In addition to SWE, I am a part of the Brown Formula Racing team and Brown Club Tennis. My interest in engineering lies in high-performance automotive engineering, and one day I hope to have the opportunity to work in Formula 1. |
Sarah Branse | Professional Development Coordinator Biomedical Engineering and Computer Science 2021 Ft. Lauderdale, FL I am a senior studying Biomedical Engineering and Computer Science. I’ve been involved in SWE E-Board since freshman year. As a Professional Development Coordinator, I collaborate with alumni and organize events for SWE members to advance their professional skills. At Brown, I work as a Circuits Tutor and CS TA, and I’m also part of BMES and the Borton Neuroengineering Lab. In my free time, I love playing and watching basketball, reading, and doing crossword puzzles. |
Eugene Rhee | Professional Development Coordinator Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Design (RISD) 2022 Irvine, CA I am a junior studying mechanical engineering at Brown and industrial design at RISD. As one of the Professional Development Coordinators, I work with Sarah to connect with alumni and create events for SWE members to help develop their professional skills. In addition to SWE, I’m also involved in Design for America (DFA), a joint Brown/RISD club, the Breuer Lab, and I am a dual degree peer advisor. In my free time, I love to eat and find new food places with friends, drink coffee, and be outdoors! |
Safah Tariq | Internal Communications Chair Biomedical Engineering 2023 Brooklyn, NY I am a sophomore studying Biomedical Engineering. As the Internal Communications Chair, I am responsible for coordinating with the School of Engineering Academic Program Coordinator, keeping records of the Society of Women Engineers’ membership, and providing exciting news and updates through the SWEekly email. In addition to SWE, I am a BDW mentor, a member of Brown BMES, and an undergrad researcher in Dr. Colvin’s lab. In my free time, I am usually hanging out with friends, drinking coffee of any kind, and/or just aimlessly doodling. |
Ellen Yoo | Outreach Director Mechanical or Environmental Engineering 2023 Fairfax Station, VA I am a sophomore deciding between mechanical and environmental engineering. As one of two outreach directors, I help plan fun events that provide resources/opportunities for the surrounding Providence school communities. Outside of SWE, I’m on Brown Club Tennis and serve on the EBoard of the Korean International Student Association, I volunteer with BEAM (Brown Elementary Afterschool Mentoring), and I research in Professor Huang’s Lab. I’m interested in studying climate change and sustainable design in the built environment. |
Ishani Mehta | Diversity and Inclusion Chair Chemical Engineering and Contemplative Studies 2022 Mountain Lakes, NJ Hi! I’m Ishani and I’m a junior studying Chemical Engineering and Contemplative Studies! I’ve been on the SWEboard for 3 years now and it’s honestly been one of my favorite parts of Brown! As the D&I Officer, I hope to make SWE a welcoming and supportive place for people of all identities! I also am deeply committed to confronting anti-Black racism and dismantling white supremacy in the systems we all are currently forced to operate within. Know you can always come to me if you have any questions, concerns, or complaints! I’m always here to listen and learn :) Outside of SWE, I’m a Bonner Fellow with the Providence Student Union, a Swearer Center Peer Mentor, a member of the Community Corps (HOPE, PAL), Active Minds secretary and on Abhinaya and Badmaash Dance Companies! In my free time, you can find me reading about sustainability/environmental justice, procrasti-cleaning, or color-coding my Google calendar! |
Ashley Chon | Social Media Chair Computer Engineering 2023 Dublin, CA I am a sophomore concentrating in Computer Engineering. As Social Media Chair, I am responsible for building and maintaining SWE's social media and online presence. At Brown, I am also involved in Meiklejohn Leadership, Brown University Orchestra as a flutist/piccoloist, Brown Entrepreneurship Program, and Reformed University Fellowship. During my free time, I love to bake, sew, explore coffee shops, and go on picnics! |
